Tribute to Véronique Proux-Gillardeaux

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing away of Véronique Proux-Gillardeaux on September 26 at the age of 52, after 10 months of a terrible illness.

An accomplished cell biologist, Véronique was passionate throughout her career about membrane dynamics, vesicular trafficking and cell polarity. She began her career at the Institut Curie, then joined Thierry Galli’s lab at the Institut du Fer à Moulin, before moving with his group to the Institut Jacques Monod in 2005. She was recruited there in 2007 as a CNRS researcher. Véronique joined Françoise Poirier’s team in 2017, then the Jackson/Verbavatz team in 2020.

Véronique was deeply involved in collective activities. She was an active member of the SBCF’s “Exo-Endo Club”. She helped run and coordinate the “Approches Quantitatives du Vivant” (AQV) research group (GDR), of which she was treasurer, and was fully committed to organizing the “AQV Days” for several years. At the IJM, she also co-chaired the animal facility ethics committee for several years.

With a genuine concern for others, Véronique was involved in the training of many young researchers. At the IJM, she also represented researchers on the Institute Council and before our SAB, and she took part in preparations for the most recent HCERES visit, promoting the involvement of researchers at the Institute.

We will miss her dynamism, her smile and her good humor.
